TMMIN External Logistic Skill Contest 2025: Commitment to Enhancing the Quality of Reliable Logistics Human Resources to Support Safety and Supply Chain Efficiency for the Industry Towards Carbon Neutrality

The government continues to strengthen regulations and policies in the logistics sector to reduce the still high national logistics costs, which according to Bappenas data reached 14.29 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2023. At the same time, Indonesia's ranking in the External Logistics Performance Index experienced a significant decline, from position 46 in 2018 to 63 in 2024, reflecting the need for comprehensive improvements.

One of the main focuses is improving the quality of human resources in the logistics sector, which is the key factor. This step is taken to encourage more efficient, integrated, and competitive economic growth. This effort is also in line with the national strategy to strengthen logistics connectivity, accelerate digital transformation, and improve the efficiency of transportation systems across all regions of Indonesia.

As part of the national automotive industry, Toyota Indonesia realizes the importance of preparing competitive human resources (HR) to face industry dynamics, including the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and the challenge of decarbonization towards Net Zero Emission. Mastery of technology and high-level skills are the key to strengthening competitiveness in this current era of digital transformation.

In line with the commitment to sustainable development (Sustainable Development Goals/SDGs), PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) consistently encourages the creation of a greener and more efficient future. This commitment is manifested through the Logistics Skill Contest as part of the contribution to a sustainable logistics supply chain, emphasizing safety, operational efficiency, and support for carbon neutrality targets through the concept of Green Logistics.

This year, the TMMIN Logistic Skill Contest has entered its 14th edition. Carrying the spirit of “Level Up Vendor to Achieve Asia Pacific Standard & Share Toyota Contribution to The Nation,” this event reflects TMMIN's commitment to strengthening and enhancing the competence of logistics partners in achieving a resilient supply chain capable of contributing at the national level.

“Logistics plays an important role in the smoothness of the supply chain, and amid the increasingly tight competition among national automotive manufacturers today, logistics plays a major role in improving competitiveness in all aspects, namely Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost," said TMMIN President Director, Nandi Julyanto, at the Awarding Logistic Skill Contest event at TMMIN Karawang Plant 3, Saturday (21/6).

He also expressed his hope that vendor management can continue to enhance Green Logistics activities that have already been implemented, such as Eco Driving Management, Eco Driving Behaviour, and Truck Preventive Management. "These activities not only reduce CO2 emissions but also decrease vehicle fuel consumption, which overall will support improving the company's competitiveness," said Nandi.

The TMMIN Logistic Skill Contest 2025 was attended by 31 TMMIN logistics partners who play an important role in daily operations, including goods management and delivery. Currently, total daily operations at TMMIN reach 1,195 trips per day, consisting of 1,066 trips by 9 Logistic Partner-Milkrun (LP), 83 trips by 14 Trucking Company-Container (TC), and 28 trips by 5 Car Carrier (CC).

The implementation of eco-driving becomes the key to efficiency in minimizing the carbon footprint of these activities. Therefore, from the beginning of the skill contest, TMMIN has prioritized improving the competence of logistics partners, including drivers, as an effort to enhance efficiency and safety.

Support for Smooth Production and Commitment to Driving Safety

This year, 1,155 participants from 30 companies participated in the TMMIN Logistic Skill Contest 2025. The categories contested in the Individual Skill Appreciation include Forklift Contest, Driving Contest, Container Yard Operation Contest, Master Trainer Contest, Manager Kaizen Contest, and Best Operation Management. In addition, this year “Master Tenko” became a new category, where this award is given based on overall assessment both individually and managerially related to the implementation of work readiness management systems both physically and mentally.

TMMIN Vice President Director, Bob Azam, emphasized that his company continuously strives to ensure an efficient and safe operational system in every distribution, by stressing the importance of the role of human resources in the aspect of safety. Considering the risk of accidents in the distribution or logistics process can hinder production processes and harm many parties, improving HR competence becomes a major factor to reduce risks and strengthen the industrial supply chain in Indonesia.

"The TMMIN Logistic Skill Contest serves as a means to strengthen the capabilities of all logistics actors in facing challenges in the automotive and logistics sectors. Driving safety and safe operation of logistics equipment are keys that directly affect smooth production and customer satisfaction," said Bob Azam.

In addition to improving driver proficiency in safe driving, TMMIN's logistics operations have currently implemented a digital application system initiated by TMMIN to monitor and prevent accidents. This system works to monitor the physical and psychological health conditions of drivers in real-time to determine driver eligibility to carry out tasks.

TMMIN will also continue to expand the system by adding features based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) that can detect signs of fatigue or lack of focus while driving. In addition, a Global Positioning System (GPS)-based driver behavior monitoring system will also be implemented to support eco-driving practices while tracking the carbon footprint generated from each trip.

Bob Azam hopes that logistics partners can properly implement the use of technology so that TMMIN and its supply chain can continue to be a relevant and sustainable industry. Not only serving as a catalyst in the national automotive ecosystem that upholds driving safety and supports carbon neutrality, TMMIN and its supply chain can also realize its vision of becoming the “National Supply Chain Role Model & The Best Logistic Operation in Asia Pacific.” (**)
