North Toraja, South Sulawesi (April 14, 2026) — Toyota Indonesia held the Toyota Eco Youth (TEY) Jelajah Nusantara in North Toraja as an effort to expand participation while introducing the TEY program, which has been running for 20 years. This event took place in Rantepao, North Toraja, and also serves as a strategic step in exploring students’ potential through the development of innovative, environment-based ideas across Indonesia. In this TEY Jelajah Nusantara event in North Toraja, South Sulawesi, Toyota Indonesia collaborated with State Vocational High School (SMKN) 2 Rantepao to introduce the TEY program, along with several other schools in the area. This visit represents a direct engagement effort by Toyota Indonesia to encourage students’ active participation in addressing environmental challenges in their regions. “The presence of TEY Jelajah Nusantara as an initiative program is a strategic step to reach areas with great potential that have not yet been optimally accessed. Through direct interaction with students and schools, Toyota Indonesia opens space for the emergence of ideas rooted in an understanding of local environmental conditions, while also encouraging solutions that are more relevant and applicable within the community,” said TMMIN President Director Nandi Julyanto during his visit to SMKN 2 Rantepao, North Toraja, South Sulawesi, on Wednesday (April 15). Toraja is one of the regions that reflects the richness of local potential closely related to environmental sustainability. Each region in Indonesia has its own uniqueness, including forms of local wisdom that have long been part of community life. Through TEY Jelajah Nusantara, this potential is expected to be encouraged and realized into innovative ideas that not only have an impact at the local level but also contribute more broadly to the environment. TEY Jelajah Nusantara itself is an initiative to introduce TEY, one of Toyota Indonesia’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs in environmental conservation, based on a competition of innovative environmental projects for high school students and their equivalents across Indonesia. Since it was first held in 2005, TEY has consistently promoted increased awareness and active participation among the younger generation regarding environmental issues. To date, over more than two decades, TEY has involved more than 2,083 schools from 34 provinces, with a total of 9,972 environmental project ideas competed. This achievement reflects the significant potential of Indonesia’s young generation in delivering innovative solutions rooted in the environmental conditions and needs of each region.
Through TEY Jelajah Nusantara, Toyota Indonesia encourages the younger generation to view the uniqueness of their regions as a source of solutions. This approach opens opportunities for innovations rooted in local wisdom and relevant to local environmental needs. PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) continues to place social responsibility as an integral part of the company’s activities, focusing its CSR initiatives on three main pillars: environment, education, and community development to create long-term social value. “Local wisdom in each region holds great potential as a solution to environmental challenges. Through Toyota Eco Youth Jelajah Nusantara, we encourage the younger generation to transform that potential into tangible innovations that have an impact on the environment. Toyota Indonesia continues to play an active role in supporting sustainable development through various initiatives focused on three main pillars—environment, education, and community development—to create sustainable social value in the long term,” said Nandi Julyanto, President Director of TMMIN (*).
