Banda Aceh, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam — As part of its commitment to supporting the Indonesian Government’s agenda to ensure equal access to quality education from Sabang to Merauke, Toyota Indonesia once again reaffirmed its contribution through a management visit to the Province of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD).
During the visit to Syiah Kuala University (USK) in Banda Aceh, President Director of TMMIN, Nandi Julyanto, delivered a public lecture on leadership, Toyota Values, and the Toyota Production System (TPS), as well as inspected the university’s Lean Manufacturing Laboratory (LML).
In his lecture themed “Leadership & Toyota Value Sharing”, Nandi Julyanto introduced students to the insights and understanding of Toyota’s seven core leadership values, along with the Toyota Production System (TPS) — the original production system developed by Toyota to achieve efficient and high-quality manufacturing.

“TPS is an original production system developed by Toyota to achieve efficient and high-quality manufacturing by minimizing waste. Lean Manufacturing is essentially the application of TPS principles across various industries. This laboratory is part of Toyota Indonesia’s CSR initiatives under the education pillar and is supported by faculty training, curriculum development, and TPS modules,” he said.
The Lean Manufacturing Laboratory at USK serves as a facility for students to learn about TPS as part of Toyota’s DNA. Toyota has also designated USK as one of ten TPS model universities in Indonesia to implement real-world industrial practices. The LML is part of a link-and-match program between industry and higher education, ensuring that students not only master theory but are also well-prepared to enter the workforce with practical skills and a continuous improvement (Kaizen) mindset.
In his presentation on Leadership & Toyota Value Sharing, TMMIN President Director Nandi Julyanto explained Toyota’s seven core leadership values: Integrity, Visionary, Respect, Ownership, Innovation, Teamwork, and Bad News First.
“Overall, Toyota’s Seven Core Values provide a solid framework for effective leadership. These values help create a positive corporate culture, foster innovation, and ensure Toyota continues to lead in the automotive industry,” said Nandi.
Toyota Eco Youth Socialization and Launch of “TEY Mencari Bintang” at SMAN 2 Sabang
As part of the visit to NAD Province, TMMIN President Director Nandi Julyanto also visited SMAN 2 Sabang on Weh Island — the westernmost island of Indonesia — to expand youth participation in environmental issues. During this visit, Toyota Indonesia reintroduced the Toyota Eco Youth (TEY) program with fresh enthusiasm through the “Mencari Bintang” (Searching for Stars) initiative. This program reflects the company’s commitment to delivering sustainable and inclusive education for all high school students in Indonesia, including those in the 3T regions (remote, outermost, and frontier areas).

Since its inception more than a decade ago, TEY has served as a creative platform for high school students to develop and implement various impactful innovations to address environmental challenges in their communities. However, geographic challenges and limited access to information have prevented many schools outside major cities from participating optimally.
Through Toyota Eco Youth – Mencari Bintang, Toyota Indonesia is proactively expanding TEY’s reach to areas that have not previously been exposed to similar activities. This step reflects the belief that the potential of young generations is not only nurtured in urban centers but also thrives in remote corners of the country that may not have had equal opportunities to showcase their best abilities.
Toyota is committed to making this program a platform for discovering and mentoring young talents in the 3T regions who have brilliant ideas for environmental preservation. In addition to providing more equitable access and information, TEY Mencari Bintang adopts a more adaptive approach to on-the-ground conditions — from coaching and proposal submission to the judging process — prioritizing fairness and diversity.“TEY Mencari Bintang is not just a competition program; it is an educational movement inviting students — the nation’s next generation — to become agents of change in their communities,” said Nandi Julyanto, President Director of PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), during his visit to SMAN 2 Sabang, NAD Province, on Wednesday (August 7).
As part of this event, Toyota’s management also conducted broader socialization of the Toyota Eco Youth program, encouraging young people to actively protect the environment. Toyota also explained the stages and requirements for TEY participation and showcased videos of the 12th TEY winners as well as documentation from the 13th TEY as inspirational examples.
“Through this inclusive approach, Toyota Indonesia hopes that every student, wherever they are, will have an equal opportunity to shine, share their ideas, and contribute to a greener future. Toyota believes that the bright stars of hope for the future are not only found in the skies of big cities, but also in the classrooms of humble schools at the edge of the nation,” said Nandi Julyanto.
