Gambir Expo—JIExpo Kemayoran, Central Jakarta (12 February, 2025) Toyota Indonesia (PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) and PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM)) presents 'Beyond Zero: Mobility for Carbon Neutrality' as a Green Mobility Solutions exhibition, which displays multi-pathway technology, which is outlined in three pillars, namely: Mobility Solutions, Energy Solutions, and Data Solutions. The theme of this Mobility Event for Carbon Neutrality is Beyond Zero, which emphasizes Toyota's global commitment, including Toyota Indonesia, to achieve Carbon Neutrality by creating a green ecosystem for a sustainable future, in a way that takes into account the unique environment, industry and energy policies of each country.
With ambition "Achieving zero carbon impact, and adding new value beyond it”, this event shows the efforts of the Indonesian automotive industry's transition towards Carbon Neutrality, which is hoped to help reduce the negative impact of carbon on the Indonesian people, industry and the environment. Furthermore, Toyota is also looking at "Beyond Zero" to create and deliver more value, by continuously looking for ways to improve life and society in the future.
This event was attended by several important figures, such as the Director General of the Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics Industry (ILMATE), the Ministry of Industry - Setia Diarta, MT and his staff, representatives from BRIN (National Research and Innovation Agency), BBIA (Indonesian Biotechnology and Bioproduct Research Agency), Pertamina, the State Electricity Company (PLN), as well as representatives from Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), Toyota Motor Asia (TMA), and PT management. "From bio-fuel and flexy-fuel technology to hybrid electric vehicles, battery electric vehicles, and hydrogen fuel cell technology, the Beyond Zero concept shows Toyota's dedication to pushing boundaries in innovation, while encouraging a pragmatic and holistic approach towards a green and low-carbon ecosystem for all Indonesian citizens, marking an important milestone in Toyota Indonesia's journey towards sustainable mobility." said Masahiko Maeda, CEO Asia Region.
Toyota Indonesia collaborates with the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin), Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), industrial players, Pertamina, PLN, BRIN (National Research and Innovation Agency), BBIA (Agro-industrial Research and Development Center), SERA (PT Serasi Auto Raya), MODA (PT Mobilitas Digital Indonesia), Toyota Tsusho. Then from academics such as ITB (Institut Teknologi Bandung), UGM (Universitas Gadjah Mada), NUS (National University of Singapore). Including startup Zero Board and supporting stakeholders to provide innovative solutions through products, services and operational activities that not only eliminate emissions, but also contribute to environmental sustainability and energy security in Indonesia.
The Beyond Zero: Mobility for Carbon Neutrality event is an example of positive collaboration between Toyota Indonesia and the Ministry of Industry, because this event is a bridge for Annual Indonesia Green Industry Summit(AIGIS) organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Industry. In 2024, the Indonesian Ministry of Industry successfully held the two-day 'Initial AIGIS 2024', which attracted more than 1,000 visitors from various sectors, especially those related to the development of the Green Industry. AIGIS was also the first carbon neutrality event held by the government, with discussions on energy use. Due to public enthusiasm and the success of the event, the Indonesian Ministry of Industry plans to continue AIGIS as an annual platform that focuses on sustainable environmental issues at both national and global levels.
In 2025, the 2nd AIGIS will be held with the theme "Encouraging Industrial Decarbonization through a Green Industrial Ecosystem". This theme is in line with the targets and strategies currently being implemented by the Indonesian Ministry of Industry. From this event, it is hoped that there will be strong collaboration between government, industry players, academics and other stakeholders to accelerate decarbonization. AIGIS will be a platform that facilitates the exchange of experience, knowledge and the latest innovations on both a national and international scale. This event is also expected to open up green investment opportunities that support national economic growth, while remaining in line with ambitious climate targets.
"As part of the national automotive industry, Toyota Indonesia invites all parties to participate in the Beyond Zero: Mobility for Carbon Neutrality event, with the positive involvement of the Indonesian people helping the government to realize Net Zero Emissions by 2060. We realize that this emission reduction target cannot be achieved by one party, or one technology alone. So, in this event, we present various types of vehicles and energy technologies with a multi-pathway strategy. In line with our principle “No One Left Behind” all technologies contribute to reducing carbon emissions and reducing fuel imports, which also helps maintain or improve the national trade balance. If utilized optimally, we will have a positive impact on the automotive industry and its labour-intensive supply chain, which employs more than 300,000 workers and is adapting to the more advanced automotive technologies of the future.” said Nandi Julyanto, President Director of PT. TMMIN.
This event will last for four days, from 12-15 February 2025. Where visitors can experience and test drive immediately a wide choice of environmentally friendly vehicles that apply the multiple-pathway concept, including low-emission and high-tech vehicles that use environmentally friendly fuels, flexy-fuel engines (biodiesel, bio-ethanol), conversion vehicles, and electrified vehicles (HEV, PHEV, BEV, FCEV) that contribute to reducing emissions. Visitors can also learn about Carbon Neutrality through the exhibition, public advocacy, discussions related to green industry, energy transition, and roadmap bio-fuel.
"In line with the Beyond Zero vision, Toyota encourages public participation in reducing emissions by offering a complete range of electrified vehicles (xEV) for all segments. At this event, visitors can see Toyota's electrification technology actively, from HEV to BEV, PHEV, and FCEV which use hydrogen as the fuel of the future. With our multi-pathway strategy we also show the sophistication of ICE vehicles, with low emissions and suitable for alternative energy such as bioethanol. With these various environmentally friendly choices, we hope that people can choose mobility solutions "The best way to support emission reduction," said President Director of PT TAM, Hiroyuki Ueda.
Sustainable Technology for Green Mobility
To meet the diverse needs of the Indonesian people, multi-pathway technology complements a wide selection of green mobility solutions with Carbon Neutrality as the main goal. Toyota Indonesia's success with its electrified vehicles shows that locally produced products can be well received in the international market. This will strengthen the Indonesian automotive industry in global competition. Toyota Indonesia not only produces hybrid vehicles, but also develops convertible vehicles such as the Kijang Innova BEV, which has been tested as part of the green tourism transformation project. Now the Kijang Innova BEV has gone through a road test of 100,000 km.
Multi-Pathway Strategy to Reduce Fuel Imports and Support National Emission Reductions
Engines compatible with bio-ethanol fuel made by Toyota Indonesia have been accepted nationally and internationally. The engine can operate on ethanol blends without the need for modification. Examples include the Fortuner Flexy Fuel Vehicle (FFV) and the Kijang Innova Zenix Hybrid FFV.
"Our multi-pathway strategy presents various technology and low-emission fuel options, to create a positive cycle by increasing the use of bioethanol, thereby reducing dependence on fossil fuels. This initiative also improves the welfare of Indonesian farmers who produce it. "The introduction of flexy-fuel vehicles confirms Toyota Indonesia's commitment to energy security and its role in change," said Bob Azam, Vice President Director of PT. TMMIN.
Regarding future energy technology, Toyota Indonesia, in collaboration with the Government, Pertamina, PLN, BRIN, and academics, officially launched the Toyota Indonesia Hydrogen Refueling Station (HRS) facility at the xEV Center of the TMMIN Karawang Factory 3. This facility introduces an important step towards the energy transition, supporting the use of renewable energy resources. The aim is to contribute to national energy security and a sustainable environment.
"Toyota Indonesia supports the government's program to achieve Net Zero Emissions 2060 by providing various choices of electrified vehicles (xEV) and continuing to develop electrification technology. With a high Number of Units in Operation (UIO), we also contribute to research on bioethanol as a renewable energy solution, to expand opportunities for public participation in the energy transition. Our goal is to further reduce vehicle emissions for a more sustainable future," said the Vice President Director of PT. Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM), Henry Tanoto.
Showcasing Various Vehicle Technologies for Carbon Neutrality
Visitors to the CN Mobility Event can explore various forms of Toyota multi-pathway vehicles featuring technology carbon-neutral low emissions, including:
1. Flexy Fuel
Draft Flexy Fuel Kijang Innova Zenix HEV The Kijang Innova Zenix HEV Flexy Fuel concept combines an electric motor with an internal combustion engine that runs on ethanol, making it more environmentally friendly. This concept can use ethanol from local resources such as sugar cane, sorghum, corn, cassava, and others, depending on availability in the area. TMMIN has the ability to produce Flexy Fuel Vehicles (FFV) that are optimized for ethanol use, helping to increase the utilization of renewable energy resources in accordance with roadmap national energy.
2. HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle)
Kijang Innova Hybrid is a favorite electrified vehicle for consumers at home and abroad, the Kijang model has been around since 1977, continuing to develop to meet mobility needs in Indonesia, now with electrification technology. Since its launch in 2022, the Kijang Innova HEV has strengthened Toyota's position in Indonesia as a high-tech vehicle manufacturer and increased the competitiveness of Indonesia's national automotive industry. The Kijang Innova HEV offers consumers the flexibility to reduce emissions without sacrificing performance or accessibility.
3. PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle)
Toyota PHEV Prius is a vehicle lift back plug-in hybrid. The first generation was produced from 2012 to 2016. The second generation started in 2016 and production of the third generation started in 2023. Apart from being exhibited at the CN Mobility Event, the Toyota PHEV Prius is also available for testing at the xEV Center Factory 3, TMMIN Karawang.
4. BEV Concept (Battery Electric Vehicle)
Kijang Innova BEV concept is a conversion vehicle from the Kijang Innova BEV, which has traveled 70,000 km. This year, the vehicle showed positive performance, covering more than 100,000 km. The Kijang Innova BEV conversion project was developed together with local vendors and human resources, producing a luxury variant for green tourism mobility.
5. FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle)
