Molding Innovative Graduates Spur Manufacturing Productivity, Efficiency, and Effectiveness


Karawang, West Java - Increasing productivity, efficiency, and manufacturing effectiveness are the main foundations of national industrial activity. In achieving this, competitive human resources and competent maintenance, logistics, and quality are needed who are ready to directly contribute to the world of work. Based on the technology curriculum with a focus on minimizing inefficiencies in manufacturing, Toyota Indonesia Academy (TIA), Thursday / August 29, 2024 succeeded in producing expert and certified human resources as many as 72 TIA graduates consisting of 64 students of the D2 study program majoring in Four Wheel Assembly Operations (TOPKR) and 8 students of the D1 Automation Machine Maintenance Technique (TPMO) study program. Since its establishment in 2016 until now, TIA has produced 327 HR experts who have worked in TMMIN and the national automotive industry supply chain.

Carrying the graduation theme "Strengthening Student's Capabilities to Eliminate Inefficiency in Manufacturing" TIA implemented the transformation of the Advance Mechatronic curriculum by improving the process through the Toyota Production System approach and briefing the concept of project-based learning. The ability of TIA graduates is also honed through the practice of job training / apprenticeship and applied in the manufacturing production process. 

"The presence of TIA plays an important role in building human resources with a strong foundation of efficiency. Several quality improvement targets, through the introduction of advanced manufacturing technology, have also been launched by TIA to produce human resources who can increase work innovation, to accelerate the manufacturing production process. So that TIA graduates can become certified competent graduates, who are able to compete to answer industry challenges and always be in front of technological changes," said Nandi Julyanto, President Director of PT TMMIN.

TIA also conducts Focus Group Discussion (FGD) evaluations with industry experts to find out and adapt more quickly to industry needs, so that the curriculum applied can answer the challenges of technological development. In the second year of education, all students are given a 1-year industrial apprenticeship program so that TIA graduates can more skillfully adapt to the latest technology in the national manufacturing industry. 

"TIA graduates who have received character education and mechatronics curriculum are expected to be more capable of increasing productivity and effectiveness in the production process in manufacturing. Eliminating inefficiencies in the logistics process, improving maintenance capabilities, and escalating the quality of work are the main objectives of developing TIA graduates to become capable and adaptive human resources to technological changes in the national automotive industry. The collaboration of technology and inefficiency curriculum will accelerate TIA graduates to become adaptive and innovative leaders in their respective fields of work in line with our motto "We Make People Before We Make Product," said Bob Azam Vice President Director of PT TMMIN.

"The learning period at TIA has been a valuable experience for me, because every knowledge learned from theory to practice in the lesson curriculum is very adapted to the challenges of the world of work that I will later face. The support from the lecturers also greatly added to the technical skills and soft skills that are needed to shape me into a productive and innovative TIA graduate. During my work practice at the factory, I was also involved in bringing various innovations in work practices so as to reduce process inefficiencies and increase manufacturing effectiveness. I am grateful to be able to study at TIA which has developed my knowledge and abilities and helped me achieve my dreams in the future," said Fikriansyah Putra - TIA Graduate Majoring in TOPKR4 with the Highest GPA of 3.7 from Aceh.

Achievements in Domestic and Foreign Competitions  Since 2019 until now, TIA students have continued to make achievements in various domestic and foreign competencies. In 2024, new achievements were made by TIA students by winning gold medals and silver medals at the Asia Pacific Skill Contest in Thailand. In addition to making achievements in the global arena, many TIA graduates have also occupied positions as Team Leaders in the Press, Assembling, and Welding Shop lines.
