The 13th Toyota Eco Youth (TEY) Enters the Mentoring Phase for the Top 25 Finalists
Surabaya – The 13th Toyota Eco Youth (TEY) has entered the mentoring phase for the Top 25 best proposals, facilitated by Toyota Indonesia (PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia and PT Toyota-Astra Motor). Following the visit to Mojokerto, the mentoring activities today (Thursday, December 5, 2024) are being held in Surabaya and Balikpapan, with subsequent sessions planned in other regions across Indonesia. This mentoring initiative aims to provide encouragement, guidance, and support for the projects undertaken by high school students participating in TEY, whose proposals showcase the best ideas and innovations for environmental improvement. This stage reinforces the vision and mission of the program, which has been fostering young environmental advocates since its inception in 2005.
The TEY program is an Eco Project innovation competition designed for high school students across Indonesia, encouraging their environmental awareness and enabling them to create projects that positively impact local communities.
With the theme “EcoActivism: Time to Act for the Planet,” the 13th TEY focuses on empowering young people to engage in decarbonization efforts. This extends beyond reducing emissions to exploring and utilizing opportunities that can also enhance community economies. Achieving decarbonization requires synergy among all stakeholders, with young people serving as key contributors to a greener future.
“The 13th TEY program has now entered the mentoring phase for the Top 25 best proposals. This activity demonstrates our commitment to inspiring and guiding selected students among thousands of TEY proposals submitted from Sumatra, Java, Bali, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Papua. We recognize the critical role of young people in ensuring the planet’s sustainability, as embodied in the TEY program. The active participation of high school students in their local environments significantly contributes to accelerating the government’s emission reduction targets during the energy transition era towards 2030,” said Bob Azam, Vice President Director of PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), during a visit to the Top 25 finalists in Surabaya.
“In line with the initiative IT’S TIME FOR EVERYONE, Toyota opens opportunities for everyone to reduce emissions in ways that are accessible to them. The Toyota Eco Youth (TEY) program is a tangible example of our support for young people to engage in decarbonization and environmental preservation through intelligent, innovative, and sustainable approaches. With the program now in its Top 25 finalist phase, we are providing mentorship to help participants refine and implement their ideas,” explained Henry Tanoto, Vice President Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM).
One of the 13th TEY finalists expressed their motivation to participate in the program as a way to help improve their local environment and contribute to their community.
“By participating in the TEY program, we aim to be part of meaningful actions to protect the Earth, starting with our local environment and community. We are very grateful for the direct mentoring provided by Toyota Indonesia management, which inspires us to bring our ideas and innovations to life for spreading environmental awareness and building a greener future,” said one of the Top 25 TEY finalists from Surabaya.
