Toyota Indonesia Receives Recognition for Outstanding Contribution Driving Indonesia’s Automotive Export Industry for Over Three Decades — Awarded the Primaniyarta Lifetime Achievement Award by the Ministry of Trade —

ICE BSD, Tangerang — Just last week (October 9, 2025), Indonesia celebrated a remarkable milestone: the export of 3 million Toyota vehicles to more than 100 countries around the world. This achievement did not happen overnight — it is the result of decades of dedication and hard work.

The journey of building Indonesia’s automotive industry began with import activities in the 1970s, followed by large-scale local production of engines, components, and complete vehicles. With local content now exceeding 80%, Indonesia has evolved into a global production and export base for Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles and several electrified models such as the Kijang Innova Hybrid Electrified Vehicles (HEV) and Yaris Cross HEV.

As a company with a long history in the development of the national automotive industry, PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) has been a driving force behind Indonesia’s export performance since 1987, beginning with the first export of the third-generation Kijang to Brunei Darussalam, and continuing to high-tech electrified vehicle exports.

Today (Wednesday, October 15, 2025), during the 40th Trade Expo Indonesia 2025 (TEI), themed “Discover Indonesia’s Excellence: Trade Beyond Boundaries”, the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia presented the Primaniyarta Award — Lifetime Achievement category to PT TMMIN for its sustained and significant contribution to boosting Indonesia’s export performance.

TMMIN has participated in TEI since 2008 and has consistently worked to maintain and enhance its export performance. This year marks the 12th time TMMIN has received the Primaniyarta Award. The Lifetime Achievement category is granted to exporters who have continuously and sustainably contributed to Indonesia’s export growth, evaluated based on participation spirit and increasing export value.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to the Ministry of Trade for the Primaniyarta Lifetime Achievement Award, and to the Indonesian people, customers, sales networks, and stakeholders who have supported the growth of the national automotive industry — making it one of the pillars of economic growth and a positive contributor to Indonesia’s trade balance through exports,” said Nandi Julyanto, President Director of PT TMMIN.

Manufacturing Industry: A Key Driver of Indonesia’s Economy

The manufacturing sector is one of the main pillars of Indonesia’s economic growth. According to the Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS), the sector contributed 18.98% to Indonesia’s GDP and 0.9% to the overall 5.03% national economic growth in 2024.

The automotive industry plays a significant role in tax revenues, not only through national income tax (PPh), value-added tax (PPN), and luxury goods tax (PPnBM), but also through local taxes such as motor vehicle tax (PKB) and vehicle title transfer fees (BBNKB), which are among the main sources of Pendapatan Asli Daerah (PAD), supporting regional fiscal capacity.

From Indonesia to the World: Strengthening the Global Automotive Supply Chain

At TEI 2025, TMMIN showcased Toyota vehicles that have been specially modified both in terms of utility and design, involving local supply chain partners in their development. Among the displays were a Kijang Innova Zenix Hybrid “tear-down” unit highlighting its local content and tier 1–3 supply chain composition, including Small and Medium Industries (IKM), as well as the Toyota Rangga converted into a logistics vehicle to support the Program Makan Bergizi Gratis (MBG) — part of President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita program.

TMMIN also exhibited high-quality OEM components and accessories. The introduction of new vehicle models — both ICE and electrified — combined with the export of components, engines, and dies/jigs, strengthens Indonesia’s position as a producer of environmentally friendly, competitive automotive products. These vehicles demonstrate the innovation and capabilities of Indonesian human resources in meeting increasingly diverse domestic and global market demands.

Additionally, TMMIN presented a wallchart illustrating the step-by-step industrial transformation from importing completely built-up vehicles to exporting electrified vehicles.

“Indonesia’s automotive industry has grown and matured through a long journey since the 1970s — evolving through seven key stages. From importing vehicles, we advanced to producing engines, components, and eventually complete vehicles at scale. Over time, local content rose to over 80%. Today, Indonesia is not only a production base for ICE vehicles but also for electrified vehicles for both domestic and export markets. This transformation reflects the industry’s ability to execute the entire production process and deliver globally competitive products,” said Bob Azam, Vice President Director of PT TMMIN.

Toyota Indonesia’s Export Performance

According to Gabungan Industri Kendaraan Bermotor Indonesia (GAIKINDO), from January to September 2025, Toyota exported 218,162 completely built-up vehicles produced locally — accounting for approximately 57% of Indonesia’s total automotive exports of 384,382 units.

The top export models include Kijang Innova (ICE and HEV), Veloz, Fortuner, and Yaris Cross (ICE and HEV).

Toyota’s two electrified models — Kijang Innova Zenix HEV and Yaris Cross HEV — contributed 7% to total Toyota export performance across Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa.
